About BHMS
Learn about:
BHMS is an important medical research study investigating the barriers, practices and awareness of osteoporosis and fracture risk in people with multiple sclerosis
Our research
Our research is focused on characterising knowledge, held by both people with MS and their healthcare professionals, about the risk and impact of osteoporotic fractures on those with MS. We aim to identify the relevant barriers and supports needed to overcome current knowledge gaps.

The data from our study will be used to support MS healthcare professionals to better understand, detect and manage osteoporosis. It will also be used to support people with MS to understand the risk factors that contribute to development of osteoporosis, and to empower them to engage in preventative bone health practices.

Our study will also highlight the inadequacy of current guidelines for osteoporosis detection and management in people with MS. We hope to emphasise the need for improved guidelines and screening regimes to more effectively identify and prevent osteoporosis in people with MS.

Our research strives to benefit people with MS through maximising their bone health, and avoiding the significant health effects, economic burden and indirect costs associated with osteoporotic fractures.
