Bone Health in MS

What is multiple sclerosis and why is bone health important?

  • Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes damage to nerves.

  • It is most commonly diagnosed between 20 - 40 years of age.

  • Osteoporosis is a highly prevalent bone disease characterised by a reduction in bone mineral density, leading to fragility and increased fracture risk.

  • People with MS are at elevated risk of developing osteoporosis. However, osteoporosis is often undetected and undertreated in people with MS.

We need your help to better understand current knowledge gaps around bone health in MS, and the supports required to improve awareness of osteoporosis risk
